Background

The Well Hung Meat Co, based at Tordean Farm near Buckfastleigh in Devon, supplies the most delicious organic meat, winning five Soil Association Organic Food Awards along the way, throughout the majority of the UK mainland to caterers, retailers and delivering to the door of the general public.

Well Hung Meat started life on the Carswell Farm in South Devon selling lambs reared on the farm to friends and family, butchered at the local abattoir and delivered to the door.  In 2001 the company entered the Soil Association Organic Food Awards with their lamb voted outright winner in the blind tasting competition and won the award again in 2002!

All products are delivered chilled to caterers, retailers and the public locally on a weekly basis in a fleet of refrigerated vehicles and nationally three days a week.

The company has built its business foundations as its name suggests on excellent service; carefully sourcing the best quality products at competitive prices from accredited producers throughout the world.

Managing Director, Geoff …………says “Satisfied Well Hung Meat customers makes all the hard work worthwhile. My aim is to connect farm to plate!”

A quality product deserves respect from farm to plate and as temperatures are so very important in the food chain a system was required to monitor 24/7 the storage areas the meat is in for the benefit of the company and customers alike.

The Solution

Loggers are used in recording temperatures every twenty minutes in all refrigerated units at the farm and each vehicle logs a temperature every ten minutes.

“Due Care & Diligence” and “Risk Assessment Procedures” are of utmost importance and David wanted to be able to electronically track and log food temperatures in storage and transportation across Devon & Cornwall (and the UK?) and not burden his workforce with more form filling.

David says “The Kooltrak system monitors temperatures throughout our entire business with the results enabling us to calculate where energy savings can be achieved.  Every single one of our customers is important to us and it is imperative for us as a company to have the best Due Care & Diligence and Risk Assessment Procedures available in place. Using up to date computer technology from Celsius Systems UK Ltd with the use of the Kooltrak system is cost effective and has already started to pay for itself”
